More of Bill Clinton's presidential records released

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., March 14 (UPI) -- Documents released Friday by the National Archives on President Bill Clinton's administration range from the U.S. response to terrorism to proposed jokes.

About 30,000 pages of Clinton-era documents are expected to become public this year, USA Today reported. The latest batch became available at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock, Ark., and online.

The information covered includes Clinton's effort to create a national healthcare plan and the administration's response to the disputed 2000 election that made George W. Bush president. One memo shows Vice President Al Gore's staff deciding not to make too much of a USA Today poll that showed him gaining on Bush, suggesting the line "Polls go up, polls go down."

Some of the documents deal with anticipated events like talking points for Clinton if Quebec decided to secede from Canada.

One handwritten memo by an unknown author suggests the State Department find "a prominent Muslim associate" to help deal with counterterrorism.

Another memo, written after the 1994 congressional elections gave Republicans control of the House, said that the new speaker, Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., and his allies were "not ready for primetime."
