BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Two motorcycles collided with a sports utility vehicle in southern Pennsylvania, leaving five people dead, officials said.
The collision happened Saturday afternoon on Fort Ritchie Access Road near Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., The Herald-Mail, Hagerstown, Md., reported.
Police said the SUV and the motorcyclists were driving in opposite directions when they collided head-on. Four motorcyclists were killed along with a passenger in the SUV.
Another person was transported to a local hospital, the news report said.
"The scene was horrific. It's probably the worst single accident with that many fatalities in the township," said Washington Township Supervisor Elaine Gladhill.
The road was closed for about five hours during the investigation, Gladhill said.
