Former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., has appendix removed

JACKSON, Miss., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., had his appendix removed at a hospital in Jackson, a former Senate staffer said.

The staffer told WLOX-TV, Biloxi, Miss., Thursday Lott is doing fine after the procedure necessitated when his appendix ruptured.

Lott represented Mississippi in both the House and Senate from 1973 to 2007. He serves on the board of directors for EADS North America and works for consulting firm Breaux Lott Leadership Group.
