AUBURN, Ala., June 10 (UPI) -- The Alabama man who poisoned the iconic Toomer's Oaks on the Auburn University campus was released on probation after serving 180 days in jail.
Harvey Updyke Jr., 64, pleaded guilty March 22 to one count of unlawful damage of an animal or crop facility. He received a six-month jail sentence as part of a three-year split sentence. He now must serve probation for five years. As part of that deal, he is prohibited from attending any collegiate sports event and must never set foot on the Auburn campus again.

Police say Updyke, a fan of the rival Alabama Crimson Tide, poisoned the iconic trees sometime after the 2010 Iron Bowl, police said.
AL.com reported Monday Updyke plans to live with family in Louisiana.
