Utah strip clubs to lose welfare spending

SALT LAKE CITY, March 7 (UPI) -- The Utah Senate has approved a bill that would make it illegal to spend welfare money in strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores, officials said.

The measure, which must become law by February 2014 in order to comply with federal law, was approved 26-1, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday.

The Utah Department of Workforce Services will be required to inform welfare recipients that they aren't allowed to use their welfare funds on strippers, gambling and liquor.

State Sen. Margaret Dayton, R-Orem, the lone dissenter in the vote, questioned how the law will be enforced, the newspaper said.
