Fire destroys Texas fireworks warehouse

FLORESVILLE, Texas, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A fire at a fireworks warehouse in Floresville, Texas, caused about $5 million in damage to the building and the property surrounding it, authorities said.

The fire started around 2 p.m. Saturday when a nearby barbecue-pit fire got out of control and lit the grass on fire, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Flames eventually spread to American Chinese Fireworks on Highway 181, said Wilson County Fire Marshal Edwin Baker.

The warehouse and five trailers full of fireworks -- positioned on about nine acres of land -- were destroyed, Baker said.
