Calif. man had dentist office in bathroom

MOORPARK, Calif., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Police said they arrested a man for allegedly practicing dentistry without a license out of the bathroom of his Moorpark, Calif., home.

A news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said authorities were tipped off to William Escobar's allegedly illegal activities in November when one of his patients complained Escobar allegedly threatened him over non-payment of a bill.

Escobar had "converted his bathroom into a dental office" and was running "an elaborate illegal dental operation," the release alleged. The man had a dental chair, dental tools, anesthetics and false teeth at his home, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Police arrested Escobar on misdemeanor charges of possessing needles and furnishing dangerous drugs.

The California Dental Board is investigating Escobar, the Times said.
