DALLAS, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Dallas' observance of the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's death will include an address by historian David McCullough, the mayor said.

The 45-minute observance Thursday in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy was shot, will include a presentation by the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club and a military jet flyover, Mayor Mike Rawlings and philanthropist Ruth Altshuler announced Tuesday at a news conference.

Rawlings said the event, the first commemoration of Kennedy's assassination in Dallas in 20 years, would be "low-key, but powerful." the Dallas Morning News reported.

McCullough, 79, was won the Pulitzer Prize twice and the National Book Award twice, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His biography of Harry Truman was adapted into a television movie, and his work on John Adams became a mini-series, the Morning News noted Wednesday.
