Nazi propagandist archives up for auction

STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The personal archives of the Nazi minister of propaganda during World War II are scheduled to be auctioned in the United States, the auction house said.

Joseph Goebbels' report cards, letters, school essays, scribbles, poetry and doctoral writing will be auction Sept. 20 and 21 with a starting price of $200,000 at Alexander Autographs in Stamford, Conn., Israel's Haaretz reported.

"It is the most important cache of World War II autographs to ever become available for sale. This massive historic grouping contains nearly the entire literary legacy of Joseph Goebbels, heretofore unknown to the general public," says Bill Panagopulos, president of Alexander Autographs.

Goebbels committed suicide May 1, 1945, along with his wife after they killed their children, leaving no direct heirs to his estate.

Goebbels' archives were put into the hands of his literary executor, upon whose death resulted in the papers being given to the current consignor, whose name was not reported.

The condition of the archives is in good to fine condition, with some documents in the same state as when they were written 100 years ago, Haaretz reported.
