3 dead, suspect critical in Tenn. attack

NASHVILLE, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A Tennessee man was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after allegedly killing three neighbors and then stabbing himself, police said.

The identity of the suspect and the three victims had not been released by authorities, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

The blood-covered suspect answered the door of the neighbor's home in Nashville's Bellevue neighborhood when police showed up just before 3 a.m., the newspaper said.

"Just kill me," the man allegedly told an officer, Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron said.

Police found the bodies of a 14-year-old boy, the boy's mother and grandmother inside. Aaron said the boy's 9-year-old sister witnessed the attack and fled to a neighbor's home to call 911.

Aaron said the suspect lives nearby and is known to have "emotional issues," but a motive for the slayings had not been determined.

"This occurred in an otherwise very quiet Bellevue neighborhood," Aaron said. "Something of this nature is very rare for Nashville. There is no danger to this neighborhood, we firmly believe the man responsible for this is known, is in custody and is in Vanderbilt [hospital.]"
