PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C., July 18 (UPI) -- An accident between a bus and a truck on Pawleys Island, S.C., killed the pickup driver and left a bus passenger in critical condition, officials said.
Craig Smith, 47, was killed Tuesday when a bus struck the driver's side of his pickup, WMFB-TV, Myrtle Beach, S.C., reported. A total of 19 people were injured, 12 were taken to hospitals and one was reported in critical condition.
"(Smith) was just easing out (onto the road) to go home, and I guess he didn't see the bus," Smith's friend and witness to the accident Alfonzo Allen said. "The bus tried to miss him, and hit him."
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident to see who was at fault. An autopsy was scheduled for Smith Wednesday morning.
