NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., July 4 (UPI) -- A tour bus crashed Wednesday on Interstate 95 in New Rochelle, N.Y., north of New York City, injuring about two dozen people, authorities said.
The bus, returning to New York from the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut, struck a guardrail, then crossed three lanes of the highway and struck a concrete wall at about 6:30 a.m., New York State Police Capt. Evelyn Mallard said. No other vehicles were involved, but the incident snarled traffic on the highway.
The bus remained in gear and continued to coast after the impact with the wall, New Rochelle Deputy Fire Chief Robert Benz said. A state trooper moved his police vehicle in front of the bus to bring it to a halt.
Initial reports said 22 people were injured and taken to Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, and to North Central Bronx Hospital, WNYW-TV reported.
