Bear returns to Los Angeles suburb

GLENDALE, Calif., June 23 (UPI) -- Residents in a Los Angeles suburb reported a bear that had been kicked out of their neighborhood in April was back and scrounging around for food.

The California Department of Fish and Game confirmed the animal spotted in Glendale this week was indeed the same bear and urged residents to keep their trash cans and backyard barbecues secured.

"We hope that the bear has returned to the Glendale area to live where it feels comfortable, not to eat out of the same trash cans and dumpsters," agency spokesman Andrew Hughan told the Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper said Saturday the bear that had developed a fondness for meatballs while prowling Glendale in the spring was nicknamed "Glen Bearian" by residents before he was tranquilized and moved into the Angeles National Forest. Residents were certain Glen had returned because of the distinctive orange ear tag he was sporting.
