ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann said she'll remain a candidate in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, even though her home was remapped into another district.

A special court panel charged with redrawing the state's congressional districts drew Bachmann's home into Rep. Betty McCollum's 4th Congressional District, which includes the Democratic stronghold of St. Paul, maps released Tuesday showed.

Bachmann told Roll Call the 6th Congressional District was where she planned to stake her legislative career.

"I wanted to be very clear, unmistakable, unequivocal today out of the gate, I will be running in the 6th District," she said. "So there was no question so people would be able to make their decisions accordingly as well."

In a fundraising e-mail sent to supporters, Bachmann called the remapping an "injustice" because the panel was "cherry-picking the districts and going so far as to draw my home -- where I have raised my family and represented in Congress for the past six years -- outside the new 6th District."

Under the remapping Bachmann does not live in the 6th Congressional District, but Roll Call said it isn't unusual for congressional candidates to run in a district where they don't live.

Bachmann told Roll Call the 6th District was the place where she "grew up" and said she has "been associated with the 6th Congressional District for 44 years," even though she played up her Iowa roots during her ill-fated bid to be the Republican presidential nominee.

Bachmann didn't rule out moving into the new district, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

"That is a decision that is yet to be determined," she said.
