SPCA suspects dog parts used in rituals

COATESVILLE, Pa., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Dog bones and body parts found in a home in the Philadelphia suburbs may have been used for some sort of ritual, investigators say.

Canine skulls were found in the house in Caln and other animal parts, including those of chickens, at a fire pit outside, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. The Chester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and local police raided the home Monday night.

"We would describe this as just macabre," Richard Britton, an SPCA investigator, told WPVI-TV. "When you go into a living room and see gold-leafed skulls of dogs, a vertebrae of a dog, and go into the freezer and see the head of a dog, for starters, you know this isn't your ordinary scenario."

Investigators also found a drawer of animal bones in the kitchen, a necklace fashioned from canine teeth and books on the occult, suggesting the animal parts were used for rituals. Charred bones and animals parts were found around the fire pit and two live chickens were rescued, Britton said.

Police also found marijuana and arrested two people, Britton said.
