CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A North Carolina 15-year-old accused of shooting and killing his father and stepmother will be tried as an adult, a judge has ruled.

Matthew Liewald is charged with shooting his 43-year-old father, Christian Hans Liewald, and his 24-year-old stepmother, Cassie Meghan Buckaloo, in September.

At a probable cause hearing Monday, District Judge Lou Trosch transferred the teenager's case to adult court, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.

Prosecutors said Matthew called 911 and told a dispatcher he'd shot his father and stepmother at their home in southwest Mecklenburg County.

Matthew reportedly told investigators he was afraid of his father, claiming he'd been assaulted by him in the past.

In the interview, played in court, he said he feared his father "as long as I can remember."

He wasn't sure his stepmother was with his father when they arrived home just before the shootings, he told investigators.

"I wasn't really thinking about what I was doing," he said.
