Obama, Boehner win in golf game

WASHINGTON, June 18 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner scored a bipartisan victory Saturday in a small-stakes golf game at a course near Washington.

Obama and Boehner won $2 each, the White House said. They secured the lead and the win on the 18th hole.

The game was played on one of the three championship courses at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. After the game, the speaker and president, along with Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, enjoyed a cold drink on the clubhouse patio and spent some time chatting with service members before the president headed back to the White House.

There was no word on whether the four discussed the federal deficit or whether Obama exceeded his powers by deploying U.S. war planes in Libya.

The game was an unusual one for Obama. The president, an enthusiastic golfer, usually plays to relax with close friends and aides.

The press was kept at a distance as the highly publicized game got under way. The president and Boehner, R-Ohio, were in one golf cart while Biden and Kasich, a Republican, were in another.

Marvin Nicholson, the White House trip director, was spotted sharing a cart with Brendan Buck, Boehner's spokesman.
