BART resumes service after derailment

CONCORD, Calif., March 14 (UPI) -- A line of the BART commuter service is back in operation following a weekend derailment near the Concord, Calif., station, agency officials said.

On Sunday afternoon, two cars of a 10-car westbound train ran off the rails while it was switching tracks to avoid a BART construction project, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

About 65 passengers were evacuated from the train headed to San Francisco International Airport.

Three people complained of back pain and were taken to hospitals for treatment, BART spokesman Linton Johnson said.

Service was restored in time for the Monday morning commute.

"We do not anticipate having any issues where we had the derailment yesterday," Johnson said.

BART and the California Public Utilities Commission were investigating the cause of the derailment, the Chronicle reported.
