Carl Paladino backs off adultery claim

ALBANY, N.Y., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Carl Paladino, the Republican candidate for New York governor, says he didn't mean to suggest in a remark to a reporter that his rival is an adulterer.

Paladino said he was simply trying to get the news media to back off from questions about his personal life, the New York Daily News reported. Paladino, who is married, fathered a child out of wedlock 10 years ago.

"I'm sick and tired of people asking me about if I've had affairs," he said.

Paladino said he snapped at a Politico reporter, suggesting he ask Democratic candidate Andrew Cuomo about extramarital affairs. Cuomo, now divorced, was married for 13 years to Kerry Kennedy.

On Wednesday, Paladino suggested he had evidence he would make available "at the appropriate time." The next day, he said his response was to a question he didn't understand.
