Obama, Biden to honor Byrd at memorial

WASHINGTON, July 2 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden travel to Charleston, W.Va., Friday to take part in a memorial service for Sen. Robert C. Byrd, aides said.

Obama and Biden will speak during the service for Byrd, the longest-serving senator who died Monday at the age of 92 in a Washington-area hospital.

Before leaving for the West Virginia capital, Obama is to make a statement about the monthly employment report and an announcement related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. He will be joined by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
