YONGON, Myanmar, June 19 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama and other world leaders marked the 65th birthday of Myanmar dissident Aung San Suu Kyi Saturday by calling for her release.

Suu Kyi, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, remains under indefinite house arrest for her opposition to Myanmar's military government.

President Obama referred to her in a statement as "the world's only imprisoned Nobel laureate."

British Foreign Secretary David Hume said Suu Kyi's detention was a violation of international human rights law, and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for the release of political prisoners worldwide.

Suu Kyi's supporters around the world were also making public appeals on her behalf this weekend. The BBC said social media sites dedicated to Suu Kyi have been extremely busy, and a demonstration took place Friday in Manila.

Members of Suu Kyi's National League were planting 20,000 trees around the country formally know as Burma.
