Brown urges Dems to ditch healthcare plan

WASHINGTON, March 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., says voters want Democrats to scrap the healthcare plan and start over to find a more bipartisan solution.

"This, above all, was the message that the people of my state sent to the president and the Congress in the election over a month ago," said Brown, elected to fill the seat of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, a Democrat.

Commenting in the weekly Republican address, Brown urged Democrats to focus on job creation and to ditch what he said was a "bitter, destructive, and endless drive" to the U.S. healthcare system.

Brown called the healthcare-reform process a "disastrous detour" that wasted a year of congressional time that could have been spent on reviving the economy. He also accused Democrats of sabotaging the legislative process in the attempt to pass healthcare reform.

"They pledged a true bipartisan effort," Brown said. "Instead, they have resorted to bending the rules, and they now intend to seize control of healthcare in America on a strict party-line vote."
