Groups trying to impact healthcare vote

WASHINGTON, March 5 (UPI) -- Activist and political groups said they are using campaigns to try to impact how U.S. House of Representatives members vote on healthcare reform.

The Baltimore Sun said Friday that activist members of Americans for Tax Reform are attempting to ensure that representatives keep their constituents in mind when voting for or against the proposed healthcare reform legislation.

"We want to be sure that any member who votes in contempt of their constituents knows they will lose the next election," ATR member Grover Norquist said.

The National Republican Campaign Committee said it is focusing its efforts on House Democrats that either come from primarily Republican districts or who previously voted against healthcare reform proposals.

"This will be an aggressive, multi-front communications operation," the committee's spokesman Paul Lindsay said.

Meanwhile, Organizing for America is pushing for the passage of the legislation, urging the group's supporters to aid those that vote in favor of healthcare reform, the Sun reported.
