Attorney in crash case accused of fraud

HOMESTEAD, Fla., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- An attorney representing a man accused of killing three Florida kids in a drunk-driving crash alleges another lawyer asked him to alter the facts of the case.

Attorney Michael Catalano, who represents Gabriel Delrisco, alleges the lawyer for the family of his client's alleged victims approached him with a proposition that would result in a lawsuit against a bar and strip mall in Homestead, Fla., The Miami Herald reported Monday.

Delrisco is facing driving under the influence manslaughter charges for a January 2009 crash that claimed the lives of Hector Serrano, 10; and his two siblings, Esmeralda, 7; and Amber, 4.

The children's father, Hector Serrano, survived the crash in Miami-Dade County, Fla.

Authorities maintain Delrisco's blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Catalano told the Herald he convinced prosecutors of the alleged proposition from the Serranos' attorney, Ariel Furst, and a sting operation was conducted. He said despite such efforts, prosecutors decided not to pursue charges against Furst.

An attorney for Furst denied the allegations.
