Biden: U.S. fully supports Georgia

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden has told Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili the republic has the full support of the United States.

The U.S. senator from Delaware met with Saakashvili this week in Milwaukee to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Caucasus. Biden used the meeting to pledge his country's support to the former Soviet republic, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Saturday.

Following Friday's meeting with the Georgian leader, Biden offered his support and that of his electoral running mate, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to firefighters and police officers.

Biden told firefighters at a public appearance in nearby Cudahy, Wis., that the Democratic electoral ticket was in full support of offering firefighters and police alike the resources they need to do their jobs.

"I'm sick and tired of this neo-conservative malarkey that somehow the federal government doesn't have a responsibility to this local fire hall, to this local police department," Biden said. "We need more than a brave soldier. We need a wise leader."
