Campaigns have at each other over economy

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The two major-party presidential campaigns are blasting each other over patriotism and how they would reignite the U.S. economy.

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden ripped Republican claims that Democratic standard-bearer Barack Obama doesn't support U.S. troops as much as GOP candidate John McCain, the Christian Science Monitor reported Wednesday.

"I am sick and tired of this Republican garbage," Biden said during a campaign event. "I am sick and tired of being told we don't care."

Biden then said he was "angry" over what he said was McCain's shifting positions on regulating Wall Street.

"John has said to the folks on Wall Street, and again I'm quoting here -- this is in The Wall Street Journal -- I'm always for less regulation," Biden said. "Here now, John has said he's going to crack down on the greed on Wall Street."

In an e-mail, the McCain campaign responded to Biden's charges, saying the Delaware senator "should aim his accusations at Obama's tax-talk versus his tax record -- because Barack Obama has voted almost 100 times in just three years in support of higher taxes."
