Bathtub seized in Peterson investigation

CHICAGO, May 31 (UPI) -- Police have seized a bathtub from the former Illinois home of a retired suburban Chicago police sergeant whose third wife was found dead in the bathroom.

Investigators looking into the 2004 death of Kathleen Savio, the third wife of former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, went to the couple's one-time home in Will County, Ill., and removed the bathtub for evidence, The Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

Authorities are searching for Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, who went missing in October.

Savio, 40, was found dead in the bathtub and her death was initially ruled accidental. But in February prosecutors reclassified her death a homicide after a second autopsy, the Tribune reported.

"The state police removed the bathtub from the home where Kathleen Savio was found dead," police spokesman Charles Pelkie told the newspaper. "It's our belief that the tub will be a key piece of evidence in the prosecution of this case when charges are filed."

Peterson has steadfastly denied any involvement in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson. He was in court Friday defending himself against a felony gun possession charge in which authorities said he was found in possession of an illegally altered assault rifle.
