Arab leaders seek emergency meeting

CAIRO, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabia and Egypt have requested an emergency meeting of Arab countries to discuss the future of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.

The meeting, likely to be held in early January, also will focus on the political struggle in Lebanon, said Amr Moussa, secretary-general of the Arab League.

Moussa spoke to reporters Saturday in Cairo after speaking Friday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, reported KUNA, the Kuwait news agency.

Moussa said Arab leaders are concerned about Israel's failure to live up to promises made at the conference in the United States in November, including the removal of some roadblocks and freezing of Israeli construction in the West Bank, KUNA said.
