Fatah leader accuses Hamas of stalling

RAMALLAH, West Bank, March 6 (UPI) -- A Fatah leader accused Hamas Tuesday of sabotaging efforts to form a unity government in the Palestinian Authority.

Yasser Abed Rabu, a member of the Palestinian Labor Organization's executive committee, made the charge during an interview on Voice of Palestine radio, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA said.

Rabu said that Hamas leaders, pursuing their own interests, believe they can gain more by stalling than by putting the Mecca agreement into place.

President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah and Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh have announced that they hope to have a unity government in place by the end of next week. The biggest stumbling block is the position of minister of the interior, since that person would control the Palestinian security services.
