Goss says CIA knows where bin Laden is

WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- CIA Director Porter Goss says the agency has a good idea where al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is hiding.

In an interview with Time magazine published Monday, Goss, 66, said much of the delay in apprehending bin Laden was rooted in diplomacy.

"When you go to the very difficult question of dealing with sanctuaries in sovereign states, you're dealing with a problem of our sense of international obligation, fair play," Goss said. "We have to find a way to work in a conventional world in unconventional ways that are acceptable to the international community."

When pressed as to whether bin Laden's whereabouts was known, Goss was abrupt.

"I have an excellent idea of where he is. What's the next question?" Goss said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Monday rejected remarks former U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalil Zad's made last week that bin Ladin was hiding in Pakistan.

Foreign Office spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani said if U.S. officials have any concrete information, they should be sharing it with Pakistan.
