The submarine, which was en route to Brisbane, Australia, for a port visit, is making its way back to its port and is expected in Guam Monday.

The accident did not cause damage to the nuclear reactor, Lt. Adam Clampitt of USPF told CNN from his base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

A Navy medical team was dispatched to the submarine's remote location to treat the injured crew members for injuries including broken bones, lacerations, bruises and a back injury.

One other sailor suffered injuries described as extremely serious.
