Earlier a law officer who chased a suspect in Alabama after a slaying testified he felt "sick in the pit of my stomach" when he learned the man was later charged as the Washington sniper.

The patrol supervisor from Montgomery, Ala., identified a photo of Lee Boyd Malvo, charged along with Muhammad, as the man who fled the Sept. 21, 2002, liquor-store shooting that left one woman dead and another wounded.

James Graboys said he saw the suspects' photographs on a newscast and immediately recognized Malvo.

A month after the Montgomery killing, Malvo and Muhammad were arrested at a Maryland rest area. The trial is under way in Virginia Beach, Va..
