Mock trial to decide Pete Rose case

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 16 (UPI) -- It's usually a case of "Alan Dershowitz for the defense," but in ESPN's mock trial concerning Pete Rose, it will be "Alan Dershowitz for the prosecution."

Dershowitz will be lead prosecutor during the two-hour trial airing Thursday evening, concerning whether Rose should be admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

And Dershowitz, who has defended such celebrities as O.J. Simpson, Mike Tyson and Jim Bakker, says he has a pretty good case.

Dershowitz told the Cincinnati Post: "I read the Dowd Report. I read it word for word, and I read most of the exhibits. "If (Rose) was my client in a criminal case, and this evidence was there, I'd say let's cop a plea."

The mock trial's lead defense lawyer will be Johnnie Cochran, Dershowitz's former partner on the Simpson defense team.

The mock jury trial will be held at the Harvard University Law School with Catherine Crier of Court TV acting as judge.
