Dec. 2 (UPI) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted defensive end Carroll Phillips from the practice squad.
Jacksonville announced the move on Saturday. The Jaguars released defensive back Calvin Pryor in a corresponding transaction.
Phillips signed with the Jaguars this spring as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Illinois. The 6 foot 3, 242 pound defender spent the first 12 weeks of the season on the Jaguars' practice squad.
He will wear No. 59 in Jacksonville.
Phillips had 88 tackles, 25.5 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks and three fumble recoveries as a senior at Illinois, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors.
The Jaguars have Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler Jr., Calais Campbell and Dawuane Smoot listed at defensive end on their unofficial depth chart. That unit has the team leading the NFL with 41 sacks.
Jacksonville currently has Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, Tyler Patmon, Aaron Colvin and Jalen Myrick listed at cornerback.
Ramsey was limited in practice all week with an ankle injury. The star cornerback was expected to miss the Jaguars' Week 12 contest due to a hand injury, but ended up playing in the Jaguars' 27-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Jaguars host the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. Sunday in an AFC South clash at EverBank Field.
Jacksonville leads the NFL in total defense, allowing 281.8 yards per game. The Jaguars also own the top pass defense in the NFL, surrendering just 168.7 yards per game.
