Tight end Jordan Cameron has decided to retire after six years in the NFL because of health concerns related to concussions.

Cameron was limited to three games last season with the Miami Dolphins after receiving his fourth concussion.

He would have been a free agent this offseason and had been cleared to return to action in 2017, but decided to call it quits.

"I started thinking about concussions too much," the 28-year-old Cameron told ESPN. "You can't play football like that.

"If I didn't get concussions, I'd probably keep playing. It's one of those things. I can't risk my mental health in the future. I don't have any symptoms now. I'm perfectly fine. But they can't tell me with 100 percent certainty that if I keep playing and I get more concussions, that I'm going to be OK.

"I'm not risking that at all. There's nothing more important than your health. It's just not worth it to me."

Last November, after being placed on injured reserve with his fourth concussion, Cameron was still leaning toward returning next season. But he has since changed his mind.

He had just eight catches for 60 yards last season in his three games, all as a starter, but he had 35 receptions for 386 yards in 16 games, all as a starter, in 2015 for Miami.

Cameron's best season was 2013, when he made the Pro Bowl while with the Cleveland Browns after catching 80 passes for 917 yards and seven touchdowns.
