Report: Washington Redskins consider Mike Mayock for GM position

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock is a candidate for the Washington Redskins' general manager position, ESPN reported Friday.

The 58-year-old Mayock has been at the NFL Network since 2005 and his duties have included breaking down talent. Mayock is one of the network's top NFL draft analysts.

The Redskins' gig opened when the club fired Scot McCloughan on Thursday night.

Mayock doesn't possess any front-office experience. He did briefly play in the NFL, seeing action in nine games for the New York Giants over two seasons (1982-83).

Mayock would become the latest television analyst to land a top front-office position.

In January, the San Francisco 49ers hired Fox Sports color analyst John Lynch as their GM.
