UFC president Dana White sets deadline for Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather superfight

UFC president Dana White set a Sunday deadline to wrap up a deal with Conor McGregor to face Floyd Mayweather in a proposed superfight.

McGregor and Mayweather have been talking about a boxing matchup for more than a year, and White has been pushing the fight between the current UFC lightweight champion and retired boxing champion. White previously estimated McGregor's payday for a potential fight with Mayweather at $75 million.

White said he is now prepared to walk away from the negotiating table if a deal isn't wrapped up with McGregor by Sunday before beginning talks with Mayweather's team.

"I plan on having this thing locked up by this Sunday and then moving on to Team Mayweather and starting a negotiation with them," White said Thursday on Jim Rome's radio show. "If we really do get it done in that time frame, then this thing could possibly happen.

"But again, I still need to go negotiate with (Mayweather's team). There's no guarantee that we're going to come to a deal."

White wants to sit down and negotiate with Mayweather's team on Monday.

"I just can't keep messing with this thing," White said. "I need to run my business, and I have to focus on all the other things that are going on around here."

McGregor, 28, has not fought since UFC 205 last November when he beat Eddie Alvarez via second-round knockout to win the UFC lightweight championship, making him the first fighter in UFC history to hold multiple titles at once. He also held the featherweight championship at the time and is 21-3 in MMA competition.

Mayweather, who celebrated his 40th birthday on Feb. 24, last fought in September 2015 when he beat Andre Berto to retain his welterweight crown. Mayweather won 12 world titles in five weight classes before announcing his retirement in the ring after the last fight, ending his career with a 49-0 record.
