March 23 (UPI) -- As a fellow former professional ice skater, Kristi Yamaguchi should probably know there were better words to use when addressing Nancy Kerrigan.

But on Monday, Yamaguchi fired off a tweet, presumably wishing Kerrigan luck on Dancing With the Stars. Yamaguchi won the contest in 2008.

"So excited for you @NancyAKerrigan! Can't wait to see you grace that ballroom floor, break a leg! #DWTS," Yamaguchi tweeted.

The Twitter-verse was quick to point out that Yamaguchi's tweet was a bit insensitive, considering Kerrigan was clubbed in her right knee in 1994. The hit forced her out of the U.S. Olympics. The incident was linked to her rival Tonya Harding and her ex-husband, who later pleaded guilty to orchestrating the attack. Harding denied the attack but eventually pleaded guilty to hampering prosecution for the attackers.

But Kerrigan didn't seem to mind the words used by Yamaguchi when she responded to the tweet.

"Just was looking at this, I am adjusting to new contacts...#oops! Thank you @kristiyamaguchi for the advise! It definitely is helping," Kerrigan tweeted.

Kerrigan is dancing with partner Artem Chigvintsev. The duo had a score of 28 out of 40 in week one of the competition. The former skating champion was a 1992 Olympic bronze medalist and the 1993 U.S National Champion. She was also a 1994 Olympic silver medalist.
