New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday, the team announced on Monday.
The procedure is to repair a torn labrum in Bird's right shoulder. He originally suffered a shoulder injury last May when he was playing for Double-A Trenton and spent a month on the disabled list.

Bird, 23, played in 46 games for the Yankees and batted .261 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs.
The left-handed hitting Bird is viewed as New York's first baseman of the future and played regularly late in the 2015 season after Mark Teixeira suffered a season-ending leg injury.
The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Altcheck at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
