The Chicago Bulls assigned veteran forward Mike Dunleavy to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League, the team announced Monday.

The Bulls made the move pursuant to the Flexible Assignment Rule, which enables NBA teams without a D League affiliation to assign a player to a team affiliated with another NBA team.

Dunleavy's time in the D League will serve as a rehabilitation stint.

He has yet to appear in a game for the Bulls this season after undergoing a microdiscectomy procedure on his lower back on Sept. 25.

Dunleavy participated in a half-court scrimmage Saturday, and Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said Sunday that Dunleavy might return some time during the club's current seven-game road trip.

"I think it would be great if we could get him out there a little bit before the All-Star break, but these next two days will determine that," Hoiberg said.

Dunleavy, 35, is in his 14th NBA season. He averaged 9.4 points last season while playing in 63 games, all as a starter. He made 40.7 percent of his 3-points shots in 2014-15.
