Chicago Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery missed Thursday's practice due to a groin injury suffered on Wednesday.

The Bears didn't report the injury Wednesday but coach John Fox confirmed the injury occurred.

Jeffery's injury comes after he caught 10 passes for 151 yards in a 22-19 victory over the San Diego Chargers on Monday. He tied a team record by posting his third consecutive 100-yard game.

Meanwhile, defensive lineman Ego Ferguson was suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances, the Bears announced.

Ferguson, a second-year player from LSU, is on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Also, running back Matt Forte (knee) practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day but it isn't yet known if he will play in Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

As for Jeffery, the injury is his third of the season. He had a calf strain in the preseason and later missed four regular-season games with a hamstring injury.

Fox sideswiped talk that Jeffery is injury prone.

"No. We're in a very physical, combative game," Fox told reporters. "I've heard medical people say, 'well, he needs some rest.' I'm like, 'well, no kidding.' That's a little better for you than going out and playing 60 minutes of football on a Sunday. That's not very restful. It's just a physical game in all elements of it, no matter what position you play.

"Picture being in a car wreck every day. That's what these guys do."
