The San Diego Padres fired manager Bud Black, the team announced on Monday.

After a busy offseason that saw new general manager A.J. Preller remake the roster with players such as Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Wil Myers, James Shields, Craig Kimbrel, Derek Norris, Will Middlebrooks and Melvin Upton Jr., San Diego started the season 32-33, sitting six games behind NL West-leading Los Angeles and four games behind the Cubs for the second National League Wild Card.
