Jimmy Walker shakes off bad weather, grabs 6-stroke Pebble Beach lead

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Jimmy Walker forged a formidable six-stroke lead at the rainy and windy Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Saturday, firing a third-round 4-under 67.

Walker overcame a long delay due to high winds with a solid effort on the par-71 Monterey Peninsula Country Club course in seeking his third victory in the current PGA season.

He finished 54 holes at 13-under-par 202, six clear of Tim Wilkinson (69) and Hunter Mahan (72), each of whom played at Monterey Saturday.

Fifteen players failed to complete their third rounds due to the bad weather. After they finish Sunday morning, all the golfers will head back to the par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links for the final round.

A forecast of more inclement weather, however, could make for more delays.

Richard H. Lee, playing on the Spyglass course, notched even-par 72 to grab sole possession of fourth place at 6-under 209.

Fifth place at minus-5 was shared by four-time winner Phil Mickelson (71), Ryan Palmer (72), Blake Adams (72), Pat Perez (71) and Jim Renner (72).
