DENVER, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- The Colorado Avalanche scored three power-play goals Tuesday in their 5-3 win over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.

Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon scored with the man advantage in the third period and Ryan O'Reilly chipped in a power-play tally late in the second period to put the Avalanche ahead 3-2.

Jan Hejda and Jamie McGinn also scored for Colorado. Semyon Varlamov notched 35 saves.

Ryan Johansen, Boone Jenner, and Nick Foligno scored for the Jackets, who have lost two straight. Curtis McElhinney allowed five goals on 23 shots.

Jenner's goal at 8:34 of the second period gave Columbus a 2-1 lead, but the Jackets were unable to get past Varlamov again despite putting a dozen shots on goal in the third period.
