NHL: Dallas 4, San Jose 3 (SO)

DALLAS, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Alex Chiasson produced the only shootout goal Thursday to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 victory over San Jose, the Sharks' first loss of the season.

Dallas came from one goal behind three times and Dan Ellis, filling in for the injured Kari Lehtonen, made 33 saves to collect his first victory of the season.

San Jose had won its first six games of the campaign, outscoring the opposition 30-9 in the process. Dallas had lost two in a row.

All the scoring in regulation came during the first two periods, with Tyler Kennedy, Matt Nieto and Patrick Marleau each putting San Jose in front. Every time the Stars fell behind, they responded -- on goals from Tyler Seguin, Trevor Daley and Cody Eakin.

Antti Niemi stopped 28 shots before allowing the goal to Chiasson in the third round of the shootout.
