RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Patrick Sharp provided a first-period tally and netted the only goal during a shootout Tuesday in the Chicago Blackhawks' 3-2 decision over Carolina.
The Blackhawks were leading 2-0 entering the third period but surrendered the advantage when Alexander Semin and Ron Hainsey each scored for Carolina to knot the score.
After a scoreless overtime, the game moved to a shootout. Corey Crawford stopped a shot by Nathan Gerbe and Semin missed before Sharp dented Carolina's Cam Ward on a wrist shot.
Crawford (32 saves) then secured the win with final save on Jeff Skinner as the Blackhawks corralled a third straight victory.
Marian Hossa also found the net for Chicago.
Ward turned aside 34-of-36 shots for the Hurricanes, who fell for a third consecutive game.
