MIAMI, June 4 (UPI) -- The owner of a Miami-area clinic has agreed to cooperate with MLB officials on a wide-ranging doping probe that could snare 20 players, ESPN reported Tuesday.
Citing two sources familiar with the probe, the broadcaster said the cooperation of Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, will prompt Major League Baseball to seek 100-game suspensions of players linked to performance-enhancing drugs allegedly distributed at the clinic.
The list could include New York Yankees great Alex Rodriguez, the Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun, Toronto's Melky Cabrera, Oakland's Bartolo Colon, San Diego's Yasmani Grandal and Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, ESPN said.
Other players linked to the Biogenesis clinic include Francisco Cervelli of the New York Yankees, Seattle's Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers and the Padres' Everth Cabrera.
The broadcaster reported MLB officials have been aggressively pursuing major suspensions for the players but have been frustrated by the lack of cooperation from Bosch.
But now a deal has reportedly been reached under which MLB will drop a lawsuit against the self-described biochemist and indemnify him for any liability arising from his cooperation in exchange for his help in pursuing cases against the players.
