MLB: Cleveland 3, Detroit 2

DETROIT, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Justin Masterson turned in six solid innings and Cleveland's bullpen shut the door the rest of the way Tuesday in the Indians' 3-2 win over Detroit.

Masterson (11-12) limited the Tigers to a pair of runs on four hits, walking one and striking out four en route to the victory.

Scott Barnes, Joe Smith and Vinnie Pestano combined for two scoreless relief innings and Chris Perez hurled a 1-2-3 ninth for his 34th save as the Tribe clinched their three-game series.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-4 and drove in the eventual game-winning run with a third-inning ground-rule double, while Jack Hannahan and Michael Brantley also collected RBI in the victory.

Rick Porcello (9-11) was tagged with the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings for second-place Detroit, which came into the contest trailing the American League Central-leading Chicago White Sox by one game.

Miguel Cabrera socked a two-run homer -- his 34th of the year -- for the Tigers.
