MLB: Milwaukee 4, Pittsburgh 1

MILWAUKEE, July 15 (UPI) -- Yovani Gallardo struck out a career-high 14 batters over seven effective innings Sunday, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh.

Gallardo (8-6) held the Pirates to one run, didn't issue a walk and surrendered four hits in the Brewers' victory.

Francisco Rodriguez tossed a scoreless eighth and John Axford picked up his 16th save as Milwaukee claimed the rubber match of a three-game series at Miller Park.

The Brewers scored all four of their runs in sixth inning on RBI from Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez, Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonado.

Pittsburgh starter A.J. Burnett (10-3) absorbed his first loss since May 2, a span of 12 outings. The right-hander yielded four runs on nine hits over seven frames.

Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Bucs, who entered the game tied with Cincinnati for first place in the National League Central.
