WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- David Clarkson's goal in the fourth round of a shootout Saturday boosted the New Jersey Devils over Washington 3-2.

Zach Parise scored in the tiebreaker's first round and Washington's Alex Ovechkin evened it up with a tally in the second.

New Jersey's Johan Hedberg made a save on Nicklas Backstrom in the top of the fourth round and Clarkson then capitalized with a backhander past Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth.

Hedberg finished with 15 saves.

Petr Sykora and Ryan Carter both scored in the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit for New Jersey.

Troy Brouwer and Jason Chimera scored for the Capitals. Neuvirth logged 17 stops.
